At Ashland Elementary School, our goal for literacy instruction is to foster a passion for reading and writing in every student. We provide authentic literacy experiences that engage students and help them become confident, independent readers and writers who think critically. As part of our whole-group reading instruction, we use HMH Into Reading to support high-quality, engaging literacy instruction that builds students’ skills and understanding while encouraging a love of reading.
Reading Intervention
Our reading intervention specialists work with students, teachers, and families to support individual reading and writing goals while helping students discover the joy of literacy. In addition to providing small-group instruction, reading specialists collaborate with classroom teachers and provide resources and support to strengthen and enrich literacy instruction in the classroom.
Our reading intervention specialists also provide supplemental instruction based on the individual needs of students. If your student qualifies for reading intervention, you will be contacted in advance and given the opportunity to meet with your child’s classroom teacher and reading specialist. Together, you can discuss goals and learn more about the instruction and support your child will receive.
Please view our division site for more information on our federal programs and literacy initiatives in HCPS.
If you have questions or would like additional support regarding literacy instruction or your student’s progress, please reach out to one of our literacy interventionists below.
