At Ashland Elementary, our staff is committed to creating a safe, caring, and engaging environment where every child can thrive. We believe that academic excellence and strong character go hand in hand, and we work each day to ensure that students feel valued, challenged, and supported.
One of the things that makes Ashland special is our thriving House System. Every student and staff member belongs to a house that fosters school pride, leadership, teamwork, and meaningful relationships. Our House System helps ensure that every child is known, encouraged, and supported while building lasting relationships and a true sense of belonging throughout our school.
This year, we are placing a strong emphasis on providing students with meaningful opportunities to discuss their learning, explain their thinking, and respond to what they are learning. We want our students to become confident communicators who collaborate with others and actively engage in the learning process. Families can support this important work by making reading a daily habit. Reading with your child or encouraging independent reading every night is one of the most valuable ways you can help build vocabulary, comprehension, and a lifelong love of learning. After reading, ask your child to tell you about what they read, summarize or give the gist of the story or information, make connections, and explain their thinking. These conversations strengthen comprehension and help children become thoughtful, confident learners.
It is an honor and privilege to serve as the principal of Ashland Elementary. I am grateful for our supportive families, generous PTO, dedicated volunteers, and caring community partners. Together, we create an exceptional learning environment where every child can succeed.
